India’s Agri And Food Exports Cross ₹5 Lakh Crore, Ranks Seventh Worldwide
India’s exports of food and agricultural products, including farm produce and fisheries, have reached nearly ₹5 lakh crore (over USD 55 billion) annually, making the country the world’s seventh-largest exporter of agricultural produce, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the inauguration of the 40th edition of AAHAR – The International Food & Hospitality Fair, Goyal highlighted the strong growth in India’s agri and food exports over the past decade. Between 2014 and 2025, exports of processed foods increased fourfold, fruit and pulses exports tripled, and processed vegetable exports quadrupled. Cocoa exports also tripled, while cereal exports doubled, with rice exports alone rising by 62%.
The minister said the achievements should encourage India to aim for the top global position in agricultural and processed food exports, aligning with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make the country the “food basket of the world.”
Goyal urged farmers and entrepreneurs to leverage the ₹1 lakh crore Agriculture Infrastructure Fund and focus on food processing and value addition to access higher-value international markets. He also noted that India has concluded nine Free Trade Agreements in the past three and a half years, providing preferential access to 38 developed economies while protecting sensitive sectors such as dairy, sugar, and key agricultural commodities.
