Malaysia is intensifying its global trade and technology outreach through a series of new strategic collaborations designed to strengthen its position in foreign markets. According to reports, the country has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Brazil to strengthen collaboration in the semiconductor industry, while talks with India are ongoing to advance joint initiatives in technology, manufacturing, and industrial development.

Deputy Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Liew Chin Tong noted that these activities are closely aligned with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s objective of expanding Malaysia’s trade and investment network with developing economies, notably those in the BRICS group and African countries. He emphasised the importance of these alliances for Malaysia’s long-term economic diversification and resilience in the midst of evolving global trade trends.

Liew went on to explain that Malaysia is using significant multilateral trade agreements, such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, to attract investors and promote innovation-led growth.

Officials also stated that the government is strengthening supply chains in high-value sectors, including semiconductors, to maintain regional stability and competitiveness. Malaysia is working with ASEAN to develop a cooperative framework that supports integrated semiconductor networks across Southeast Asia and beyond, establishing the country as a prominent player in global technological ecosystems.
