India, Korea Strengthen Economic Ties with Focus on Emerging Technologies

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry stated that India and South Korea have agreed to explore cooperative projects in important industries such as electronics, electric vehicle (EV) components, and trusted digital supply chains. Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada and South Korean Trade Minister Yeo Han-Koo achieved an agreement at a bilateral discussion on the sidelines of the G20 Trade and Investment Ministers’ Meeting (TIMM) in Gqeberha, South Africa.
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in advanced manufacturing, digital technology, and clean energy solutions. Both parties expressed an interest in fostering industrial relationships that may stimulate innovation, improve value chains, and support long-term growth in emerging technologies.
Prasada also met with ministers from Japan, South Africa, and the Netherlands to discuss ways to expand trade and investment ties and identify new opportunities for collaboration.
During the G20 meetings, Prasada stressed the importance of restoring a fully functional, two-tier dispute settlement mechanism within the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and called for an operational appellate body. He also emphasised India’s commitment to finding a permanent solution to public stockholding for food security, providing affordable food access around the world.
