Shubman Gill and KL Rahul Keep India Afloat on Tough Day at Old Trafford

India’s visit to England continues to be a rollercoaster, with the hosts seizing control of the fourth Test at Old Trafford on Day 4. After bowling India out for 358 in their first innings, England responded with a huge score of 669, taking a commanding lead. India’s second innings began disastrously, with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan both dismissed for zero.
Despite the early collapse, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill demonstrated toughness under pressure. The duo kept India’s hopes alive by maintaining an unbroken partnership throughout the innings. On Day 4, Rahul stayed unbroken on 87, while Gill held steady at 78*. Their determined batting saw India finish the day at 205/2, still trailing by 137 runs.
In the process, Rahul and Gill each scored 500 runs in the series. Surprisingly, they became the first Indian duo to amass more than 500 runs in a single Test series since Sunil Gavaskar and Dilip Sardesai in 1971.
With only one day remaining, India will attempt to bat through to force a draw. England, however, will seek to take the remaining eight wickets and win in front of their home crowd.
